Bandipur is a quaint little town that used to lie on one of the trading routes to Tibet from the plains and and retains its very old world charm and cultural uniqueness. The Begnas is an artificial lake close to Pokhara and offers unique views of the Annapurna range. Astamkot is one of the best possible places to view Mt. Machhapuchhare or the Fish Tail Mountain, considered among the most beautiful mountains in the world.
Following a day of sightseeing in Kathmandu you will drive along the main highway out of the valley heading west. After about a two and half hour drive you will leave the main highway and climb up thorough a smaller road to the town of Bandipur. Bandipur is situated atop a ridge and overlooks the Marsyangdi river valley on one side and a few minor valleys on the other. In the later afternoon and evening stroll through the town center with its single street lined on both sides with old Newari buildings and little side lanes leading into cul-de-sacs.
Leaving Bandipur in the morning you will head west again toward Pokhara but will turn north before reaching the city itself and climb to Kalikasthan where a hot lunch will be awaiting you. From Kalikasthan walk down to the Begnas Lake and boat across the lake to the Begnas Lake Resort.
In the morning drive through Pokhara to Milan Chowk and trek to Astamkot. The mountain views, especially of Mt. Machhapuchhare are truly breathtaking from this vantage point. Descend to Milan Chowk in the morning and drive to Pokhara. Optional sightseeing tours can be organized this afternoon in Pokhara or you can choose to laze around the lake side tourist hub with its many restaurants, bars and shops.
A midmorning flight to Kathmandu gives you ample time to catch up on additional sightseeing or to shop in its famous bazaars.
